Help prevent fungus and disease in your fruit trees by spraying with horticultural oil or orchard spray after blooming.  Horticultural oil is also an organic alternative to deter harmful insects.

Check out our Cabbage Cages

We had a severe problem with beetles last year on our cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower, so we’re trying something new.  Dan and his crew built these A-frame cages with fine netting to protect our crops.  We’ll let you know how they work!  Even if they don’t protect against the bugs, they certainly are providing protection from the wind and elements!

June To Do list:

  • -It’s time to plant your warm weather vegetables.  (Corn, beans, peppers, eggplant, tomatoes, squash, pumpkins, etc.) Seeds and plants are available at the greenhouse.
  • -Plant “leggy” tomato plants deeply.  Roots will grow from the buried stem.
  • -Water your vegetable gardens thoroughly once or twice a week during warm weather, letting the water penetrate deeply around the root system.  This type of watering is preferred over light watering every day as it encourages deeper root growth and will help plants tolerate dry weather later on in the summer.  For best results, use drip irrigation.
  • -Use mulch around the base of your vegetable plants to discourage weeds and retain moisture.
  • -Keep weeds out of the garden to conserve soil nutrients and moisture and to help keep out disease and undesirable insects.
  • -The best practice for harvesting herbs is just before flowering when the leaves contain the maximum amount of essential oils.  Herbs are easy to dry by tying and hanging in our dry climate.
  • -Prune sucker shoots from all trees.
  • -Fertilize your roses and plant new rose bushes.
  • -Trim your hedges.
  • -Encourage beneficial bugs and birds by planting annuals and perennials that flower all season.
